A Standing Ovation
ANGELINA ARTS ALLIANCE SALUTES THE
From its beginning, the T.L.L. Temple Foundation has advanced the spirit of philanthropy by partnering with a community of donors to support artistic and educational initiatives that encourage artistic expression, enrich cultural diversity, and preserve our cultural heritage.
There was a time before the Temple Theater when East Texans had to travel to Houston, Dallas, or Austin to enjoy the performing arts. Buddy Temple led the effort to make the Temple Theater a state-of-the-art performance venue because he wanted the people of East Texas, of all ages and backgrounds, to have the opportunity to enjoy Broadway shows, plays, ballet, talented singers and musicians, and children’s productions right here at home. Buddy Temple passionately believed that the arts belong to everyone.
TEMPLE THEATER PERFORMANCES
The Foundation has been the lead underwriter for a number of the Alliance’s most memorable performances such as Cats, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, Clint Black, LeAnn Rimes, Glenn Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Vince Gill, and MAMMA MIA!
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Thanks to the support of the Foundation, the Arts Alliance created the Schooltime Series which brings artists from around the world to Lufkin. Since 2002, over 130,000 East Texas students (Pre-K-12) have attended a Schooltime performance. Its Discovery Series has also been highly successful in reaching families through educational programs with weekend matinees at very low ticket prices.
OUTREACH
Started in 2014 and underwritten by the Foundation, the Schooltime Outreach Series takes the educational programming directly to the Angelina County school campuses. Since the 2016-2017 school year, Outreach performances have grown to include five school districts. Thanks to the vision and spirit of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation, generations of local students will benefit from the educational experience found in the performing arts.
PINES THEATER PERFORMANCES
The mission of the Angelina Arts Alliance has expanded to include the performances at Lufkin’s historic downtown theater. The Foundation proudly supports their efforts to diversify and expand their audience and to further use the arts to advance economic development in the heart of Lufkin’s central business district.
WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO KEEP THE ARTS ALIVE IN EAST TEXAS!
