WILLIAM INGE’S BUS STOP COMES TO THE TEMPLE THEATER

The bus pulls up to the Temple Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Monday 21st, as the Angelina Arts Alliance presents Montana Repertory Theatre’s production of William’s Inge’s warm –hearted comedy, Bus Stop. Tickets ($31-$40) are on sale now at the Temple Theater box office, open weekdays noon-5:30, or you may purchase tickets by phone at 936-633-5454.  The Temple Theater is located on the Angelina College campus in Lufkin.  Bus Stop is sponsored by Brookshire Brothers Food & Pharmacy and Goodwin-Lasiter, Inc / Scott & Strong, Architects. Tenth Anniversary Season Sponsor is Temple-Inland.

William Inge, the author of Bus Stop, was born in Independence, Kansas in 1913. He wrote most of his plays between 1947 and 1971.  In 1953, Inge’s play Picnic won a Pulitzer Prize, as well as the Drama Circle, Outer Circle, and Theatre Club Awards. He wrote Bus Stop in 1955 and followed up with Splendor in the Grass in 1960, winning an Academy Award for best Screenplay.  His plays are filled with a compassion that is both touching and stimulating. He said, “I’ve always been glad that I grew up in Independence, because I feel it gave me a knowledge of people and a love of people…People who grow up in small towns get to know each other so much more closely than they do in cities…Independence lies in the very heart of our country, and so maybe its people have more heart in human affairs. Big people come out of small towns.”   Most of us would agree with him.

We are thrilled that Montana Repertory Theater is bringing this insightful and soul-stirring play to the Temple Theater. Half-price tickets are available one hour before the show, and the cast will stay after the performance for a short Q&A session.

We know you will find William Inge’s Bus Stop full of tenderness, soulful understanding, great heart, and rollicking, life-affirming humor. One thing’s for sure; you will not leave unchanged.

Tickets for Bus Stop are on sale now at the Temple Theater box office. Call early for best seating--936-633-5454.  For more information, visit our brand new web site at www.angelinaarts.org  or follow the Arts Alliance on Facebook for updates and monthly ticket giveaways.
