Whether you love a traditional ballet, or an athletic journey through a world of technology, dance is taking center stage at the Temple Theater in January. This specially priced Family Matinee ($5 kids and $10 adults) is presented by Angelina Arts Alliance on Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 at 2:30pm. The show is recommended for children 7 and older and their families. A Glow-In-The-Dark Dinosaur Adventure is sponsored by Popeyes. If you love traditional ballet, the Russian National Ballet Theatre brings Giselle to the Temple Theater stage on Wednesday, January 26th at 7:30pm. Tickets for this beautifully staged ballet are $36-$45. The Russian National Ballet Theatre is sponsored by First Bank & Trust East Texas and KTRE-ABC 9.
So what does a dinosaur adventure and a traditional ballet have in common? Actually, both productions are cast with professional dancers from renowned ballet companies world-wide.
Although it may seem easy to maneuver life-size puppets, A Glow-In-The-Dark Dinosaur Adventure is so physically demanding, it takes trained dancers and actors to bring it to life. It’s a cutting edge blend of puppetry, technology, and dance, and the cast of five includes dancers from the Indianapolis Ballet Theater, Sacramento Ballet, Twyla Tharp Dance Company, Montgomery Ballet and multiple Broadway shows.
On the traditional side, The Russian National Ballet Theatre brings dancers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and the greatest ballet institutions in Russia. Artistic Director Elena Radchenko has focused the company on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works, and developing new talents throughout Russia . In Giselle the company of 50 dancers brings the story of a young peasant girl to life as she enters a world of betrayal, mystery, beauty and danger.
