Arts Alliance Adds Broadway Mega Hit

LUFKIN, TX. ‘Clouds have silver linings’ and ‘everything happens for a reason’ came to mind when Angelina Arts Alliance got the news that a popular show which was on contract for their 2015-2016 season cancelled their entire tour. Agents for I LOVE LUCY contacted Tracy Pinkerton, Arts Alliance Executive Director, with the news that the entire coast–to–coast tour was being cancelled. “Months spent planning the schedule, budgeting funds, editing contracts goes out the window and we are back to square one” said Tracy. Grasping for a replacement for LUCY, Tracy thought of the show which the Arts Alliance has been trying to bring to Lufkin for years – MAMMA MIA! Despite having already made her annual call to the New York agent who reps MAMMA MIA! and being told, again, that it was not available, Tracy called back. This time, as fate would have it, she learned the highly sought after Broadway musical announced new tour dates open in Texas. “We hated to lose I LOVE LUCY”, Tracy added “but this cloud has a bright silver lining! We are thrilled to announce MAMMA MIA, one of Broadway’s all-time biggest musicals, is coming to the Temple Theater May 18 and 19, 2016!” Ms Pinkerton exclaimed. “It is disappointing to lose LUCY, as lots of folks were already anxious to see it. Adding MAMMA MIA to our 15th anniversary season is a fitting if not momentous save! All efforts to bring this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship to Lufkin over the last few years have fallen short, so to have the good fortune to present MAMMA MIA during our 15th anniversary season is very exciting!”  MAMMA MIA! will be at the Temple Theater on the Angelina College campus Wednesday May 18 and Thursday May 19 starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the Tony Award-Winning musical range from $35-$45 (Premium/Box $50). The 2015-2016 Season Sponsors are Georgia Pacific and CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial.

With more productions playing internationally than any other musical, MAMMA MIA! is the World’s No.1 Show. East Texans who have been asking for this funny tale, spun with the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs finally get their wish. Single tickets for MAMMA MIA! And all the 2015-2016 performing arts series shows go on sale August 3, 2015.
