In a genre of music that prizes musicianship above all else, Cherryholmes stormed to the front of the pack of the bluegrass scene with talent, hard work, sacrifice and determination. In fact, twelve years ago the family band sold their house and moved into a vintage bus so they could commit to making music full time. Comprised of parents Jere and Sandy Cherryholmes, and children Cia, B.J., Skip and Molly, the band’s chemistry is as real as the sheer delight they get from making music together.
The band’s rise to fame comes as no surprise to anyone who’s spent time with this well-grounded ensemble. The band relies on raw talent and each other to see them through the tough times, and there have been tough times. In fact, the band was formed after an especially rough period following the death of Jere and Sandy’s eldest daughter Shelly. Soon after, the family went to a bluegrass festival to lift their spirits, and enjoyed it so much they put their own band together. The rest was history in the making. Now, their children are getting older and wanting to pursue life in their own directions, and the band is saying farewell. They have several performances in other states before saying good-bye, but their last stop in Texas is at the Temple Theater Saturday, February 5th. Jere Cherryholmes said, “We hope to see you there or somewhere down the trail.” Share in the celebration as the Cherryholmes family, who have been called “one of the most successful acts on the bluegrass circuit”, plays their last song.
