BLACK VIOLIN, an outreach special concert at Lufkin Middle School auditorium February 9, at 7 pm is “Violin like you’ve never heard it before!” Black Violin began a decade ago when Will Baptiste and Kevin “Kev” Marcus decided to blend classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B and bluegrass music. Named one of the hottest bands of the year at Austin’s South by Southwest in 2013, these classically trained violin and viola virtuosos are accompanied by their band, featuring ace turntable whiz DJTK, and drummer Beatdown. Their groundbreaking classical mash-up has taken them to 36 countries, three Super Bowls and collaborations with P. Diddy, Kanye West, Aretha Franklin and The Eagles. This special live concert will be held at Lufkin Middle School, February 9th at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 adults, $3 children/students. So open your ears, your hearts and souls – to the genre busting sounds of Black Violin!
