Matinee performance
Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Tickets: $7 kids, $15 grown-ups
When world-renowned circus stars dream up a factory, it is no
ordinary industrial plant. It’s a wild and wonderful workshop where the
machines are circus props and the workers are acrobats, dancers,
contortionists, and clowns. It’s Birdhouse Factory by Cirque
Mechanics, an extraordinary troupe of Cirque du Soleil, Pickle Family Circus,
and Moscow Circus veterans who transform the mundane into the magnificent.
Inspired by Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry
murals, the whimsical illustrations of Rube Goldberg, and the comedic hijinks
of Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, the show tells the story of
assembly-line workers producing humdrum widgets at the H. Rosebud Factory,
until a disoriented bird creates mayhem and forever alters their lives and the
factory’s future. While its inspirations make Birdhouse Factory
artful, nostalgic, and funny, the true essence of the show comes from the
circus. The show enchanted Broadway audiences for six weeks last December.

Tickets: $22-$30
(tickets go on sale November 16th)
Cantus is recognized as one of America’s finest professional
male vocal ensembles.
The Western Front, Christmas 1914. Out of the violence comes a
silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land, singing Stille
Nacht. Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music –
and peace.
This
amazing moment – when enemy soldiers put down their arms and joined one
another in seasonal celebration – makes up the framework of All is Calm, a co-production of Cantus and Theatre Lat t é Da ( Minneapolis). The
theatre/choral piece features a cast of actors and singers who use letters,
journal entries, and songs to illuminate the historical moment when ragged
bands of soldiers put a temporary stop to war. Re-live this remarkable true
story from WWI through the words and songs of the men who lived it.
